PHOTOS: Las Vegas Kobalt Tools 400 – 06MAR2011

You could not have asked for more of a perfect setting for this weekends Kobalt 400 race here in beautiful Las Vegas.  The air was cool, the sun was partially hidden and the NASCAR fans were as friendly as ever.

I have to give a shout out to gay NASCAR fans Jack, Mark, Jackson, and Scott.  From what they told me, they are avid NASCAR fans who also happen to follow us here at Queers4Gears.  Hats off to you guys and hope to see y’all around more.

NASCAR and Queers4Gears fans (L to R): Jack, Mark, Jackson, and Scott

Interestingly enough, my Grindr app nor my Growlr app did not pick up on anyone around me.  The guys must have left their phones back at the hotel.

Michael Myers was unable to make the race but he was there with us in spirit.  Hope you are doing better buddy.

Now, it is time for the photographs.  You can also find more photographs by clicking HERE.

Smith’s 350 NASCAR truck race…

by EyeHeartBears for Queers4Gears.com

I would first like to take this time to thank Michael Myers and his wonderful site know as Queers4gears.com for giving me the opportunity to do the photography.  The site gives people, like myself, the ability to be updated with the latest information about the automotive community (especially NASCAR), but from a different perspective.  What I also enjoy seeing and hearing about is the following of straight men and women that he has collected over the past year since the site became available.

Without further hesitation, here are some images from this past weekends Sam’s Town NASCAR truck race that was held at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on 25SEP2010:

Forty NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams have filed entries for Saturday’s Smith’s 350 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the roster carries some interesting names.

AP Photo/Ross Land - Narain Karthikeyan racing to NASCAR

The event truly is an international affair with the entries of Narain Karthikeyan and Nelson Piquet Jr. Karthikeyan, who advertises himself as “The Fastest Indian in the World,” is a 33-year-old former Formula One driver from Chennai, India, He recently finished 11th at Texas Motor Speedway. Brazil’s Nelson Piquet Jr. competed on the F1 circuit during the 2008-2009 seasons and is the son of three-time F1 champion Nelson Piquet.

Two female drivers are entered in Saturday’s Smith’s 350: Jennifer Jo Cobb of Kansas City, Kan., and Johanna Long of Pensacola, Fla.

Veteran NASCAR star Ken Schrader certainly is no stranger to LVMS: he competed in the first-ever NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event held at LVMS in 1996.

Area meteorologists are predicting perfect weather for the annual Truck Series event, which annually produces some of the most exciting racing seen on the 1.5-mile superspeedway’s high banks.

Qualifying is set for 3:15 p.m. Driver introductions are scheduled to take place at 6 p.m., followed by the Smith’s 350 at 6:30 p.m.

Jeg Coughlin Jr. enters this weekend’s NHRA O’Reilly Auto Parts Nationals as the fourth-seeded driver in the Pro Stock class. Coughlin trails leader Mike Edwards by 87 points with five events remaining in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship playoffs.

Jeg Coughlin Jr. is a four-time NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Pro Stock champion. He earned season titles in 2000, 2002, 2007 and 2008. As a sportsman driver, Jeg also claimed the NHRA Super Gas championship in 1992.

With 52 career Pro Stock wins, Jeg Jr. ranks fourth all-time among Pro Stock drivers. Only Warren Johnson (97), Bob Glidden (85) and Greg Anderson (62) have more titles.

After the first 18 races of the 2010 season, Jeg Jr. has claimed four wins and appeared in six final rounds in NHRA national event competition. He earned victories in Houston, Atlanta, Sonoma, and Brainerd and also reached the final round in St. Louis and Denver.

Racing in the Top Dragster class, Jeg Jr. also won the NHRA O’Reilly Midwest Nationals earlier this season behind the wheel of his brother, John’s 200-mph JEGS.com dragster. He posted a runner up finish in Pro Stock at the same event.

In 18 races in 2010, Jeg Jr. has qualified in the top half of the field 15 times and has not been seeded lower than 12th at any race.

In 278 career Pro Stock races, Jeg Jr. has reached the final round 83 times, recording 52 wins. Including his 14 sportsman victories, Jeg Jr. has won a total of 66 times, good for ninth place on NHRA’s all time wins list. During his career, Jeg Jr. has appeared in 102 final rounds, 83 as a professional and 19 as a sportsman racer.

During his Pro Stock career, Jeg Jr. has recorded 468 round wins while incurring just 213 losses. He has failed to advance past the opening round just 66 times.

zMax Dragway is the only facility on the NHRA Full Throttle tour where Jeg Jr. has not won. Built in 2008, zMax Dragway has hosted just three NHRA national events. Jeg Jr. won the coveted K&N Horsepower Challenge at Norwalk Raceway Park in 2009.

In his most recent appearance in Charlotte at the inaugural Four-Wide Nationals in March, Jeg Jr. qualified in the No. 1 spot with a track record 6.520-second run. Jeg Jr. has qualified No. 1 17 times in his career. He was also the No. 2 qualifier at the inaugural zMax event in 2008.

The O’Reilly Auto Parts Nationals will feature the latest round in the Get Screened America Pro Mod series which features Jeg Jr’s brother, Troy Coughlin. Currently, Troy is ranked fourth in the Pro Mod standings with his nitrous oxide-equipped JEGS.com Chevy Camaro.

Troy Coughlin is the only Pro Mod driver to have qualified for all eight events in the Get Screened America Pro Mod series thus far in 2010.

There are two events remaining in the 2010 Get Screened America Pro Mod series and Troy Coughlin trails leader Von Smith by 146 points.

The JEGS Mail Order team will also include Jeg Jr’s fiancée, Samantha Kenny, who will be racing in the Super Comp class with her JEGS.com dragster. Samantha is a former NHRA national event champion. Her father, Alan, and brother, Jason, also race in NHRA competition and have previously won national event titles.

OLD BRIDGE — A driver was killed Friday afternoon in a crash at Old Bridge Raceway Park, authorities said, marking the second fatal crash in as many years at the track.

The driver, whose name has not been released, died after the vehicle ran through a net at the end of the track at the Pension Road raceway, New Jersey State Police officials said. The deadly collision occurred around 12:30 p.m. during the 2010 NHRA’s SuperNationals drag racing event.

Other official details of the crash were not immediately available. But a results page on the NHRA website said a Funny Car driven by Neal Parker never opened its parachutes, then went off the track and into the sand.

State Police Sgt. Stephen Jones said fatal crash investigators were still at the scene Friday afternoon.

Top fuel racer Scott Kalitta was killed nearly two years ago in a fiery crash at the Pension Road track. The 46-year-old was in the final qualifying round Saturday, June 21, in the NHRA’s Lucas Oil SuperNationals when his Funny Car exploded into flames and crashed at the end of the quarter-mile track.

Television replays showed Kalitta’s car explode into flames about 1,000 feet down the track. His Funny Car hit a top speed of 300.73 miles per hour and crossed the line in 4.974 seconds.
