NASCAR and MotorSports – From a Queer Perspective

Jay Penske/Dragon Racing New Endeavor: Watersports

When reading that country singer Randy Travis had been found laying on the side of the road in North Texas drunk and naked I thought the story couldn’t be topped.  You can’t just make up such amazing odd news.  But, Jay Penske, son of Roger Penske and owner of Dragon Racing, may have topped Mr. Travis today.

It was reported by The Inquirer and Mirror of Nantucket that Jay Penske and his brother Mark had been arrested for breaking and entering during the nighttime with intent to commit a misdemeanor on the Nantucket Yacht Club property.  Your first thought would be, “Why would a successful man and his brother break into a yacht club?”  That’s certainly what I thought.  But, the story has a twist.  Prior to the breaking and entering, 2 women approached a police officer stating they had been assaulted by 2 men.  Jay and Mark were having a brotherly moment together alone in a dark parking lot urinating when the 2 women approached the Penske brothers.  Jay turned around and peed on one of the girls boots.  Apparently it was on purpose.  She “confronted” him, and he reportedly grabbed her arm and shoved her.  Mark also is said to have shoved a girl as well before both men fleed.

Seriously?  Who knew the Penske brothers were into watersports?  If you aren’t familiar with the term look it up, but don’t do it on a work computer…or in public.  The puns write themselves.  ”Jay Penske now starring in Piss’n'Boots!”  ”Jay Penske in Crouching Penske, Pissing Dragon.”  ”Penske’s female friends determine that it is in fact better to be pissed off than pissed on.”  ”Jay Penske and brother Mark state they were just helping the ladies with a jellyfish sting.”  And really, if Jay and Mark are into watersports, they should get a lesson on how to approach that situation.  It’s certainly not an activity you should just spring on someone.  The key to a mutually pleasurable experience is trust.

All kidding aside, this is certainly a stain (see…the puns keep flowing) on the Penske name for the time being.  And, as a businessman, Jay should know better than to act like such a frat boy.  I’m sure there are details of the situation that could shed additional light on what happened, but randomly peeing on a lady and proceeding to rough her up a little is never a good idea.

As of now, there has been no statement from Dragon Racing or from IndyCar regarding the incident.  My assumption is they will keep quiet until the whole mess blows over.  The arrests come only a week after Roger Penske fired Nascar driver AJ Allmendinger over failing a random drug test.  You know what they say, when it rains it pours.
