IMHGO – In My Humble Gay Opinion is just that…. my opinion. Agree? Disagree? Post up your thoughts in the comments section.
The US Military Sponsorships of Ryan Newman and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are in jepordy after the House Appropriations Committee approved an amendment Thursday to the 2013 defense appropriations bill that would prohibit funding of sponsorships of professional sports or major sporting events.
The amendment was introduced by a Republican and a Democrat – Jack Kingston (R-GA) and Betty McCollum (D-MN) – a rare example of the two parties working together in today’s fractured political climet.
This bill has been tried before – and it failed. The arguements are not as complicated as either side would have you belive. Budgets are tight – and those in favor of banning tax payer funded sponsorships argue that everyone needs to tighten the purse strings.
Those who argue against the bill have endless statistical evidence that the money the Military spends in NASCAR pays back…. it is one of the best recruting tool the military has. Advertising in NASCAR has been a smart business move for the Military.
I have a solution that should make everyone happy…. or really mad.
Bring back the Draft!
The US Military wouldn’t need to spend a penny on recuitment if every citizen were required to serve their country. The millions spent on sponsorships could be spent to arm, house and train these new soldiers.
If they did bring back the draft I can promise you one thing – we would go to war less. We would carry a larger stick but would use it less often… and only when critical to the security of our Nation.
NASCAR fans and drivers are notorius for their support of our service men and women – and that should and will never change. In Ryan Newman didn’t have the US Army scheme on his car….. the sport would still honor our soldiers at every race.
Bring back the draft – every American (even the gays!) will serve our country and this debate about Military Sponsorships won’t be necessary.
