2010 was the first full season that Queers4Gears covered the Sprint Cup Series and I can hardly wait for the 2011 season to begin.
In 2010 Q4G provided live coverage from 6 west coast races. We were features on ESPN.com and The New York Times. I cannot thank the staff at each of those tracks and The NASCAR Media Relations staff – they made Q4G feel welcome and helped me to provide great coverage.
I was outed as the mind behind the parody twitter accounts: Old and New Kyle Busch. When those accounts went viral it brought attention for something other than the novelty of a gay guy at the race track.
Q4G was featured on ESPN.com and in The New York Times. Many of the stories and interviews we published were picked up and linked by web portals like: Jayski.com, Towleroad.com, TheAdvocate.com and AfterElton.com. I am most proud of the editorial I wrote about the lessons learned or forgotten by NASCAR after driver Tim Richmond died of A.I.D.S.
In 2010 – there were 29,462 unique visitors with over 75,000 visits! This means you all came back more than once and I really want to thank my readers.
So what about 2011? I plan to cover all 5 of the west coast races. Now that Auto Club Speedway has lost a race I am planning to add another race to my scheulde and travel to one of the tracks in the midwest.
We are going to add some INDY Car coverage. Several INDY fans have contacted me and you will be reading some new contributors in 2011 about the happenings in IRL.
I am comitted to exceeding everthing Q4G accomplished in it’s first season this year. Please stay tuned and as always- if you have any suggestion, ideas or complaints let me know!
